Alhaji Garba Babayo Gamawa is the vice-governor of Bauchi state and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate Bauchi North. In this interview with Daily Sun, who was one Gamawa-time chairman of the House of Assembly, talks about his political ambition, why his boss, Governor Isa Yuguda, deserves a second term, among other issues.
Extracts. Why would you go to the Senate when sitting vice-governor? I want to go to the Senate because of the appeal by the good people of my district for my life for the job. Also, I realized that for the past 10 years, he hasn, AOT was a significant presence in the federal government, the participant. That is to say, since the death of our Senator, Alhaji Mustapha Shettima the Shetima of Katagum, who made a strong source of tension, there were no projects. So I decided to answer the call so I can go to the National Assembly and the continuation of development projects for my people.
One might think that the vice-governor, you might keep an eye on the governor's seat after the expiration of his term, consideration of issues of power change. Yuguda is South and North, and you would have been able to succeed him after two terms as vice-governor. Serving two terms as vice-governor is not a license for a future governor because people in many states served as vice-governors, and unfortunately at the end of their term, they are not even chosen by the party. I am someone No, look Aot to what is on the plate then I have something in my mouth. So I'm in no hurry to become the governor of Bauchi State. I believe that power belongs to God and He gives both it wants. I am not in a hurry and I think INSAH Allah, I will make a difference when I am in the Senate.
Are you going to the Senate because some people say it is more lucrative? I do, AOT even know that I started as a legislator, as a member representing a single constituency and God decided to rise when members chose me to be their President. I was again selected as the vice-governor. The question of the lucrative position occupation, I'm not going there to make money. For God made me, I'm going there to make my quota, so that people can enjoy the dividends of democracy in the federal government down to the grassroots. The question of profit, I do, AOT know.
As a former President, what is your opinion on the leadership crisis rocking the state, where two OSA Assembly legislators are entitled to the presidency? People need to understand what the House is. This is a legislative body of the state and as a legislative body, it must respect the constitution of the county and the constitution stipulates that before a president can be impeached, there must be 2 / 3 majority of members who approved the indictment. I saw the list, which they supported impeachment. Unfortunately the list, I discovered many irregularities because we have 31 members and before you remove a President, you must have 21 members at ease. Three people on the list were with me the day it was made. I called one the phone and he told me he was in position to Gabarei Darazo and condolences to the house. Also the name of the legislator appeared twice. The person who has presided as his name was on the list. The Constitution says that the person presiding has no vote. Therefore, through the list, we can say that the whole impeachment thing is null and void.
What is the way out of the current impasse in the House? As one of the three branches of government, they have independence, no one has the power to interfere in their activities. I became the President following the dismissal and I thank God I'm gone, without being indicted. So we should not intervene because they have their officers, legal department, the principal accounting officer, who is the clerk, they have a secretariat and leadership.
If they will comply with the provision of the Constitution, it is not a serious case. Your Excellency, there are two groups in the solid state, a struggle against the government Yuguda make someone local Katagum where you come from becoming a governor, are you a member of jamka or Kamankanku? I am not a member of one of two groups you mentioned. I do not consider Bauchi State as a whole in my house. It will not be good for us to preach feelings. I'm from the area Katagum and I'm very happy, and in fact it is my agenda during his election is the question of the creation of Katagum State because I did a lot when I was President . I made contacts at the Conference of Presidents and Speakers at the Forum.
I lobbied quite right and I will continue to lobby because most presidents, we are always in contact and the Constitution provides that before a state is created, it must be supported by 2 / 3 of Houses of Assembly. To meet this constitutional requirement, I would use my relationship with them as a former president to push for the people of Katagum for a state. And someone from the area Katagum to be a governor of Bauchi State, I like it because I'm Katagum and would like to have someone from there the rule of the state. This is the third time someone Bauchi South occupy the seat of Governor Adamu Mu, South Äôazu spent two years and Isa Yuguda held once his term expires and we believe that Allah INSAH he will get a second term. We hope that the Bauchi State Governor will Bauchi North.
Do you regret serving under Yuguda? No, not at all.
Where do you think there is need for improvement? We are talking heart to heart problems and everything I observed that his deputy, although there are areas that need improvement, we have discussed. What is your priority in terms of projects for your district in the Senate? In the Northern District of Bauchi Senate, we abandoned projects since the Second Republic as roads. We road-Potiskum Hadejia which was abandoned, and we need schools and also the issue of securing nominations for the locals. There are so many things to do. If you go to the district, you'll realize that we have a shortage of water that the Federal Ministry of Water Resources in River Basin Hadejia-Jammar use to do many projects at different stages of the water. Unfortunately, in our senatorial district, we are far behind. So I want to go there and see what I'll be able to do.
