ACN requests for resignation of President NYSC longer a threat to the INEC ad hoc staff


The Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN), called for the removal of the President of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Board of Directors of Cross River State, Chief Linus Okom on his alleged threat to NYSC members serving as the Commission Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ad hoc staff in the elections.
In a press conference in Calabar, state party chairman, Cletus Obun, said some members had confessed that the NYSC Okom leader threatened to extend their year of service a year if they did not deliver the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the aborted April 2 elections.
The SMS purportedly sent by members of the Corps and made available to Daily Sun, reads in part: "Help, we are members of the body. Chairman of the Board of Directors NYSC Cross River cautioned, we must offer POP or face one-year extension. "According Obun, the PDP has also tried to faculty members with monetary incentives, in addition to threatening messages to others who are also sent to our candidates, especially our governor and Senate candidates."
He said that 13 had been sent threatening messages to ACN candidates and, therefore, calls for security agents to ensure adequate protection of life and property of members of the opposition. Obun further stated that no member of his party was disqualified as speculated and argued that "some policemen on duty since the elections were seriously compromised, the police authorities should immediately overhaul the DPO to ensure the neutrality of agents. However, in a press release signed by the State PDP Chairman, Ekpo Okon, and broadcast on Radio Television of State, the party denied ever sending messages of threats to members of the body and warned the opposition to stop engaging in a smear campaign.
Ekpo, who doubles as a commissioner for the development of the Niger Delta (NDDC) Board, said some agents were paid to destroy the electoral chances of the ruling party and advised all stakeholders to play the game by the rules rather than engaging in smear politics and blackmail.
