Jonathan credible campaign promises

President Goodluck Jonathan has again reiterated its commitment to free and fair elections in the country as Nigerians go to the polls Saturday to elect the National Assembly.
The Chairman informed members of the delegation of the National Democratic Institute today in Abuja that "if I am a candidate or not, I have an election that would meet the minimum standards of transparency and fairness."
President Jonathan who also said he had a responsibility to lead by example, stated that it would be impossible for Nigeria to aspire to occupy a leading position in Africa or elsewhere, without free elections, fair and transparent adding that "several African countries have had successful elections, and if we do not do things right, we can not lead anyone whatsoever or call to order when they miss the target. "
He also said the foundation of all genuine democracy was credible elections, and anyone who does not believe in the power of the ballot has no place in governance and leadership, adding that the belief accounted for the appointment of the directors of those worthy of faith on the Independent National Electoral Commission and the support of the electorate for successful elections.
Earlier in his remarks, the president of NDI and head of the delegation, Mr. Kenneth Wolack, said the Institute was more than 50 observers from more than 23 countries in the country, in collaboration with more than 17,000 Nigerian observers.
